Challenge Conventional Wisdom

Slagle Design, in partnership with Ratchet Strategy + Communication recently completed a rebrand for Tiffin University. It was a pleasure working with their team to reimagine their brand identity and help them tell their story on a new way.

Our project covered logo and brand identity, strategy and communications, new tagline, admissions view book, application to printed materials, video production and photography.

A new brewery in Alberta, Canada called The Growlery Beer Co. A Growlery is defined as a place of refuge for the ill humoured and out of sorts. The brewery will be a place where people can come to disconnect from outside distractions and get back to engaging in conversation with people you may not know but have alot in common with, like a passion for locally crafted indepedent beer.  

A grizzly bear is the animal that best suits people when they are “ill humoured”, but also ties into the owners love of the outdoors and local national parks. They wanted a vintage feel, but with a modern look. Also, Alberta is the home of some of the best barley in the world and coming from an agricultural family, they feel very close to the local growers.

Looking and feeling fabulous shouldn’t cost an arm and a leg. 

All-natural, Pälish smoothes away roughness, moisturizes deeply, scents skin naturally, and doesn’t cost an arm and a leg to leave your arms and legs looking like a million bucks.

Heather, the creator of Pälish, looked to Slagle Design to help launch her new business with a memorable and playful brand that could extend to multiple product lines. Delivering a custom wordmark, type, illustrations and bold color palette, Heather was thrilled with the end product.

NEW WORK | For the love of cheese!

Slagle Design partnered with John and Anne Reese on the branding of their creamery, Black Radish. The couple have a mutual love of food and passion for science, which are the perfect ingredients for becoming cheese makers. Their fruit butters, jellies, and preserves are packed with flavor and only use the best ingredients—a MUST for your next cheeseboard. Is this making you hungry? Taste their cheese, jams, and sandwiches at their location at the North Market.

Munch Rights introduces INCREDI-PUFFS!
with a wholesome blend of plant-powered ingredients

Slagle Design teamed up with Verb Garden, Inc. on a creative overhaul of the Munch Rights brand with Wyandot Snacks and dished out a delicious new product name, brand, stratgey and packaging. We asked the question "why is it the healthier the snack, the more ho-hum the flavor?" We raised the bar by creating a better-for-you, better-tasting puff. Made with wholesome ingredients you can actually pronounce—like non-GMO corn, beans, and potatoes—our “better-for-you” Munch Rights Incredi-Puffs are baked, not fried; have 30% less fat than potato chips; and are completely free of artificial colors, flavors, trans fats and gluten. What aren’t they free of? INCREDIBLE TASTE! Look for Incredi-Puffs in a grocery store near you.

Trillium, like the flower for which it is named, is an integral part of the north campus neighborhood landscape.

We had the opportunity to work with the folks behind the new fine dining restaurant, Trillium Kitchen & Patio. Executive Chef Bradley Balch (also known for The Sycamore) and crew came to Slagle Design with the name and concept and we helped Trillium visualize and tell their unique story. Trillium's menu draws inspiration from global cuisines– especially seafood— and changes regularly to highlight the finest seasonal ingredients. They are dedicated to greeting you with open arms, feeding you well, and helping you celebrate everything from the everyday to the extraordinary—stop in and enjoy!

Wooly Pig Farm Brewery

One historic farm. Some old-world influences. And a seasoned brewmaster’s family.

We are super excited to be working on this project. The Wooly Pig Brand mark is a twist on the legendary hex sign—a tribute to those who have inspired them to be hard-working caretakers of their farm & brewery; and to embrace old-world, farm-family traditions that suggest small is sustainable, local is imperative, and quality is non-negotiable.

Backroom Coffee Roasters get a new look!

Slagle Design is excited to share the work we recently completed for Backroom Coffee Roasters. Chris and his team were a joy to work with and their coffee is top notch! Birthed in the backroom of a bicycle shop and how operating out of an airplane hangar, Backroom Coffee is small batch hand-packaged goodness! You can find Backroom Coffee at markets throughout Central Ohio. Yay Bikes! Brand Enhancement

Slagle Design in partnership with Ratchet Strategy + Communication worked with Yay Bikes! to revitalize their well-recognized and beloved brand.

Our mission was to raise the profile and presentation of the Yay Bikes! bike corral – as well as provide the community and users of the bike corral with relevant information that compels them to new or increased levels of engagement with Yay Bikes!

Over the years Yay Bikes! created several events and educational opportunities, each with their own name and unique logo. This has lead to a lot of confusion. Through our meetings and conversations to address the bike corral and articulate the Yay Bikes! multi-faceted story, we recognized an an opportunity to do more than simply deliver these specific deliverables. We recognized the potential in a cohesive and consistent brand identity.

By looking across all of the organization’s activities, we saw the potential in enhancing the brand in ways that would help it better fulfill its mission and engage its target audiences, elevating the Yay Bikes! brand to its proper position as the organization that truly represents the educational, event-driven, advocates of bicycle fun, safety and transportation in Central Ohio. 

A refined brandmark

The existing Yay Bikes! brand was well-recognized and the concept was solid. No need to reinvent the wheel. However, as the organization is increasingly involved in advocacy, working with local law enforcement on safely initiatives and local government on policy issues, it was apparent that the brand needed to be able to appeal to a more diverse audience, allowing them to be taken seriously by city engineers, officials and legislators while not losing the fun of their community rides and educational events.

By building upon the success of their existing logo but standardizing the font, spacing, angle, and line width we were able to better bridge the audience gap while making it easier to read at a distance as well as at small sizes.

The new Yay Bikes! logo is streamlined, allowing it to be read more legibly at smaller sizes.

Brand consistency

To elevate the Yay Bikes! brand, we also created a standard for the various sub brands and renamed the “Pedal Instead Bike Corral” to “Yay Valet!” further reinforcing the ties to the Yay Bikes! brand. 

The sub brands were diluting the strength of the core brand and it became apparent that most people didn't realize they were related.
